Archbishop Claims Government is Corrupt!

... and a politician cries, "sedition!"

Unfortunately, it's another country. But it sets a good precedent!

Could our bishops do the same? Or would they fear losing billions of dollars in federal taxpayer subsidies? And an investigation of the bishops' coverup of the abuse scandals?

Appreciate Mr. Manion's column
My problem with the leadership in the Catholic Church since the sixties is that they are effeminate. The men all carry purses.
Pray alright, but carry a big stick.
I can remember the men in our church marching down to our local theater to protest a movie, now they will not even stand up for their families, their children.
I ran for state rep. in Illinois (Aurora) I lost by a margin of 3 t0 1. There are 10 Catholic churches and four chapels in my district. My opponent is anti-life/anti family , but she has the support of the Hispanics , the labor unions, and business. Not that she supports small business, families, the right to life, second amendment, private schools, etc. and she will lie or cheat if necessary, but she still won. I brought all these issues out, but what can you do with a campaign chest of under $5,000.
Most disappointing was the Right to Life advocates. I went to seven rallies distributing my literature and week ing their help, not a single person replies. The prolifers that supported me I could have gotten without going to a single rally.
Maybe 1/3 of those who displayed ant-Planned Parenthood signs would take one of my signs. Some openly had my opponents signs. Not one Catholic school, agency or group would have me in to speak claiming separation of church and state. They could have had both me and my opponent in. , but the fact of the matter is, most of them are Democrats. I ran as an Independent Republican. I supported Ron Paul.
I had a very conservative platform. Even if they did not agree with me on my fiscal policies, what about their children, their daughters on the Life issue?
Concerning the Bishops let me say this.
I am looking for a Cardinal Rahm Emanuel. Someone who knows how to use power. If the Bishops had used their power 40 years ago, I would not now have legalized abortion.
When the Bishops were pressed about placing children with homosexual couples they caved in, they surrendered. They stopped doing adoption at those Catholic Charity agencies that were effected. What they should have done was to close down every CC agency in the country until our freedom of religion rights were recognized and secure. If they threaten our hospitals with loosing our licenses if we do not do abortions or refer for abortions we should close all our hospitals in protest. Cardinal Rahm Emanuel would do it. He knows how to sue power. He is a realist.
Some time I will write to you about how the Bishops were warned about abortion by Dr. Herbert Ratner back in the sixties. They did not listen then and they probably will not listen now.
Unfortunately they have taught the men in our church to model themselves after them. It takes more than speeches and prayer We have lost close to 5,000 men in Iraq and God knows how many men in Afghanistan fighting for oil, the banks, a one world Democracy, population control and other secular reasons, but have not lost one man in this country fighting for our families. Amen
